Appalachian State linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough was named the October athlete of the month for defensive players in football Tuesday.
Kimbrough, a senior, had at least nine tackles in all four of the Mountaineers’ games in October. He made 15 tackles in a loss to Wofford, and followed with three sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss in a win over Western Carolina.
Kimbrough made 10 tackles in a 31-28 ASU victory over Georgia Southern. Appalachian State closes out its season Saturday at home against Furman.
Elon receiver Aaron Mellette was the offensive player of the month. He had 32 catches for 595 yards and eight touchdowns in just three games, including 237 yards against Appalachian State.
His 15 touchdowns this season are four shy of the league record of 19 set by Randy Moss of Marshall in 1996.
