Hudson sinks Watauga Wolverines 24-8

The Watauga Wolverines opened their home game with Hudson with a one-touchdown lead.
Then the Hornets came back by scoring the game's next three touchdowns and claimed a 24-8 victory over the Wolverines at Jack Groce Stadium Wednesday.
Watauga showed it could move the ball on Hudson by marching 74 yards on five plays. Joey Watson capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run with 3:00 left in the first quarter.
Watson found Isiah Finger for the ensuing two-point conversion to give the Wolverines an 8-0 lead. Finger set up the touchdown by gaining 38 yards on the drive's first play. He also had a 9-yard gain on a keeper and Watson ran 18 yards to the Hudson 2-yard line the play before the touchdown was scored.
Hudson struck back with a scoring drive of 52 yards. Gage Priek scored on a 9-yard touchdown drive with 1:19 left in the first quarter. Priek added a two-point conversion run, which tied the game 8-8.
Hudson scored another touchdown on its first drive of the second half. Nate Monroe raced around the left sideline for a 64-yard touchdown with 7:05 left in the third quarter. Priek added the two-point conversion, which gave the Hornets a 16-8 lead.
Hudson added its final touchdown on its next drive. Monroe capped the 43-yard, nine-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. Priek scored the ensuing two-point conversion to give the Hornets a 24-8 lead with 22.5 left in the third quarter.
Watauga returns to the field on Sept. 24 to host Granite Falls at Jack Groce Stadium.
