SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s men's basketball forward Nathan Healy has been named as the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Healy, who helped lead Appalachian State to a 3-0 record last week, has been one of the key components to the Mountaineers' current five-game winning streak.
In wins over Elon, UNCG and Wofford last week, Healy averaged 18.7 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent (19-of-38) from the floor while adding six assists, six steals and five blocks.
He matched a career-high with 24 points in Monday's come-from-behind win over the Spartans and poured in 22 in another comeback win over the Phoenix on Saturday. His 10-point, five-rebound performance also helped Appalachian to a gritty 50-49 win over the Terriers last Tuesday.
A senior management major, Healy carries a gaudy 3.98 GPA in the classroom and has been nominated for a spot on the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America team. He is Appalachian State's second SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week this year, joining women's basketball's Courtney Freeman.
Healy and the Mountaineers look to extend their winning streak to six games when they take on Chattanooga at 7 p.m. on Thursday at The McKenzie Arena.
