Hayes, Van Dyke honored by NWC

Watauga’s volleyball team placed three players on the All-Northwestern Conference team.
The Pioneers placed Rebecca Hayes, Channing Hagaman and Ashlyn Van Dyke to the team. Hayes was also named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Van Dyke was named co-Defensive Player of the Week with Hickory’s Farrah Young.
Watauga reached the third round of the state playoffs before being bounced out by Hough 3-0. The Pioneers (16-12, 10-2 NWC) beat A.C. Reynolds 3-1 in the second round.
NWC champion St. Stephens put four players on the all-conference team. Katelyn Houser, Ashley Markland, Jenna Bolick and Breanna Hall all made the squad.
Hickory placed Young and Abbey Donahue, while Foard put Madison Hayes and Rebecca Scott on the team. Madi Suddreth made it from Alexander Central, Kailey Binegar from South Caldwell, and Ally Soldati from Hibriten.
Alexander Central coach Terri Fulbright was named the coach of the year.
