Hardin Park sweeps Bethel

Hardin Park’s volleyball team closed out the season with
a 2-0 victory over visiting Bethel in the final match of the season.
The Eagles claimed a 25-17, 25-22 victory. Just before the match, the Eagles’ eighth-grade players were honored for their final home match.
Bethel did its best to spoil Hardin Park’s celebration. Hardin Park (13-1) took an early 8-3 lead in the first set, but did not run away with the victory. Bethel (2-12) closed to 18-16 and 19-17 before Hardin Park pulled away behind the serving of Brynne Gould.
Gould served three aces during the final stretch. Bethel could not return her final serve, which gave the Eagles the victory.
Bethel gave Hardin Park headaches in the second set. Bethel never fell behind more than two points for most of the game. Bethel trailed 23-22 after a Hardin Park error, but the Eagles won the next two rallies to win the match.
In other matches, Green Valley (13-1) kept pace with Hardin Park to tie for the regular-season championship by beating Valle Crucis and Blowing Rock in a trimatch. Green Valley beat Valle Crucis 27-25, 25-17 and Blowing Rock 25-11, 25-5.
Hardin Park won a drawing with Green Valley and will play Bethel again at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 in Lentz-Eggers Gym. Green Valley, the No. 2 seed, takes on No. 7 seed Cove Creek (3-11) at 6:30 p.m. at Lentz-Eggers Gym Monday.
Valle Crucis (9-5) beat Blowing Rock 25-16, 25-19 Wednesday, and is the third seed in the tournament. The Cougars play No. 6 Parkway (4-10) at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Watauga Auxiliary Gym.
Parkway fell 25-9, 20-25, 17-15 to Mabel in a Wednesday trimatch. Mabel (8-6) beat Cove Creek 25-20, 25-12 to grab the fourth seed of the tournament.
The Mustangs play Blowing Rock (4-10), seeded fifth, at 6:30 p.m. at the Auxiliary Gym at Watauga High.Parkway also beat Cove Creek 25-12, 25-13.
