Hardin Park sweeps Bethel, Cove Creek

Hardin Park swept its trimatch with Cove Creek and Bethel at Hardin Park’s gym Monday afternoon.

Hardin Park opened with a 25-6, 25-9 victory over Cove Creek in the first match played. The Eagles also swept past Bethel 25-11 and 25-7 in the final match of the trimatch.

Cove Creek recovered from its early loss and beat Bethel, but needed extra points to do it. The Raiders ended up taking 27-25, 26-24 decision.

Hardin Park got off to a fast start against Cove Creek, which wore similar maroon uniforms that the Eagles wore. Hardin Park took an 8-2 lead and increased it to 15-3.

The Raiders struggled with the serving of Brynne Gould, who served four aces in a row to give Hardin Park a 21-5 lead. The Raiders could not return the serve of Reina Marze and won the set.

Marze served the first 10 points of the second set to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead. Cove Creek battled back to pull to within 14-7, but could not get closer.

Cove Creek rebounded by winning two close sets against Bethel. Cove Creek fell behind 17-10 in the first set, but rallied to pull to 19-17. The Raiders held off two set points and finally caught Bethel at 24-24.

Leading 26-25, Cove Creek’s Olivia Brooks served an ace to give the Raiders the win.

The second set was the opposite of the first. Cove Creek took an early 13-7 lead and increased it to 21-13 before Bethel started to rally. The Rockets chipped away at Cove Creek’s lead and eventually caught the Raiders at 22-22.

The game was tied 24-24 when Cove Creek’s Caitlin Vines served an ace. The Raiders won a short rally on the next point to ice the victory.

Hardin Park broke open a 5-5 tie with Bethel by scoring seven straight points. The Eagles eventually went in front 19-8 and never looked back.

Hardin Park rode the momentum into the second game by taking an 18-4 lead.

In another middle school volleyball match, Green Valley beat Valle Crucis 25-20 and 25-15.
