Green Valley's boys beat Blowing Rock

Green Valley's boys' basketball team broke open a close game with a 14-point third quarter in the Eagles' 43-26 victory over visiting Blowing Rock Monday.

Blowing Rock scored the first three points of the third quarter with a 3-point basket from Justin Howell. Green Valley answered by scoring the next 12 points in a run that was capped by a 3-point basket by Jonathan McClannon. The run gave the Eagles a 28-19 lead that evolved into a 30-21 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Green Valley continued to put on the offensive pressure by going on a 9-3 run capped by a Dustin Carter basket, which gave the Eagles a 39-24 lead. Alex Weaver and Dustin Grubb closed out the scoring for Green Valley.

McClannon led the Eagles with 15 points. Chris Harrison scored 14 points and Carter had six for Green Valley.

Blowing Rock scored 18 points on six 3-pointers. Luke Winkleman led the Rockets with 10 points and Satchel Moberg scored seven. Howell scored six and Isaac Soucek scored three.

In other boys' games, Hardin Park beat Bethel 55-16 and Parkway beat Valle Crucis 43-37.

 

BLOWING ROCK GIRLS 25, GREEN VALLEY 22

Blowing Rock pulled away from Green Valley to claim a 25-22 victory over the host Eagles Monday.

Paige Bolick scored 10 points and Parris Bolick added six for Blowing Rock. Sophie Reese scored six points and Mackenzie Thomson added three points for the Rockets.

Grace Proffitt scored seven points, Taylor Walker scored six and Riley Hodge scored five for Green Valley. Chloie Valczak scored four points for the Eagles.

Green Valley led 12-10 at halftime, but Blowing Rock rallied to take a 17-16 lead into the fourth quarter. Reese scored two baskets to give Blowing Rock a 21-16 lead, but Hodge drained a 3-point shot to answer for Green Valley.

Paige Bolick and Reese scored the final four points for Blowing Rock to give them the victory.

In other girls' games, Mabel beat Cove Creek 21-16, Valle Crucis beat Parkway 25-20 and Hardin Park beat Bethel 43-32.
