Green Valley, Hardin Park win in semifinals

Green Valley reached the finals of the middle school volleyball tournament with a 2-0 victory over Valle Crucis at Lentz-Eggers Gym Monday.
The Eagles walked away with a 25-14, 25-16 victory over Valle Crucis. Green Valley took big leads in both sets to secure victories in each.
Green Valley, behind the serving of Savannah Rusher, rushed out to a 9-0 lead in the first set. Valle Crucis never recovered, and never got closer than seven points (21-14) the rest of the set. Rushing not only served up Green Valley’s first point, but also served an ace to score the Eagles’ final point of the game.
Rushing opened the second set with two serving aces. The Eagles took a 6-2 lead before Valle Crucis scored the next two points.
Valle Crucis rallied to pull to within 11-8, and trailed 14-10 midway through the match. Green Valley outscored the Cougars 6-2 to claim a 20-12 lead Valle Crucis would not threaten.
Hardin Park won the other semifinal match 25-13, 25-12 over Mabel, also at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
Hardin Park took a 14-match winning streak into its showdown with Mabel. The Eagles broke a 3-3 tie by going on a 6-2 run to take a 9-5 lead in the first set. Hardin Park eventually went in front 21-10 and cruised to a victory.
Hardin Park took a 7-1 lead in the second set, but Mabel fought back to pull to within 13-10. Hardin Park turned on its afterburners by going on a 7-0 run on the serving of Katie Patton and never looked back.
