Georgia Southern runs past Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. — Georgia Southern reached the semifinals of the Football Championship Subdivision with a 49-35 victory over Old Dominion Saturday.
The Eagles, who trailed by 14 at one point of the game, rallied with 28 points in the fourth quarter. Dominique Swope scored a 12-yard touchdown run with 2:36 left in the game, which gave the Eagles a 42-35 lead.
The Eagles got the ball back on the next play from scrimmage when J.J. Wilcox intercepted a Taylor Heinicke pass. Georgia Southern worked the clock down to 46 seconds when quarterback Jerick McKinnon scored on a 1-yard touchdown.
Georgia Southern rolled up 602 yards rushing. Swope gained 186 yards and scored two touchdowns on 22 carries, while McKinnon added 171 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns.
Heinicke completed 31-of-41 passes for 421 yards, but his lone interception proved to be critical. Nick Mayers caught 10 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns for the Monarchs.
Wofford played at North Dakota State, but results were not available by presstime.
