SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State women’s basketball team senior Anna Freeman and sophomore Maryah Sydnor were named to the All-Southern Conference Team by the league’s coaches Tuesday.

Freeman was also named first team all-conference by the SoCon media members. The media named Sydnor to the second team.

Freeman finished the regular season as the top scorer (16.6 ppg) and steals leader (3.0 spg) in the SoCon. She currently ranks third in rebounds (8.9 rpg) and blocks (1.9 bpg), while heading a front line that leads the league in scoring with an average of 68.9 points per game and ranks second in offensive and defensive rebounding (40.7 rpg). Freeman capped off her regular season slate with nine double-doubles, including a 26-point effort in the Mountaineers’ 63-60 loss to Samford.

Sydnor completed her sophomore campaign ranked second in the league in free-throw percentage, averaging 88.1 percent (89-for-101) on the season, while finishing third in field goal percentage with a 49.2 percent average (158-for-321).

The 2013 Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament begins Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Kimmel Arena in Asheville. The championship game is scheduled for March 11 at 3:00 p.m.
