Freedom's girls' JV team clips Pioneers

Freedom's junior varsity girls' basketball team shook off a halftime deficit and rallied past Watauga for a 34-32 victory at Lentz-Eggers Gym Friday.
Watauga claimed a 21-10 lead, but Freedom scored the final four points and trailed 21-14.
Watauga's offense slowed in the third quarter by scoring just one point, a foul shot from Olivia Williamson. Freedom kept chipping at Watauga's lead and trailed 22-21 going into the fourth quarter.
Freedom took a 31-22 lead by opening the fourth with a 10-0 run. Watauga struck back with a 9-2 run capped by a Karson 3-point shot and a Holly Green foul shot to pull to 33-31.
Watauga would not get closer in the final 1:20 of the game and fell.
Hamrick led the Pioneers in scoring with nine points. Olivia Reese finished with five points and both Alli Brown and Tristin Derrick scored four points each.
Jade Crump led Freedom with 14 points. Dorian Rutherford added eight.
WATAUGA BOYS JV 59, FREEDOM 38
Watauga's junior varsity boys' basketball team claimed a 29-12 halftime lead and never looked back in its 59-38 victory over Freedom at Lentz-Eggers Gym Friday.
The Pioneers went on a 9-5 run at the start of the third quarter to take a 38-17 lead that would never be threatened. Watauga took a 45-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
Jeremy Ringler led the Pioneers with 12 points. Caleb Bryson added nine points and Zach Valet added seven points. All of the Pioneers scored at least two points.
Freedom got 10 points from Davonte Francois.
