Freedom has hired Brandon Allen to be its new football coach, the school announced Monday.
Allen, who goes to Freedom from Waynesville Tuscola, replaces Blair Hardin, who left Freedom to coach at North Myrtle Beach High in South Carolina.
Allen was the head coach at Tuscola the past two seasons. Tuscola finished 3-8 in 2012, but improved to 8-4 in 2013.
Allen was the offensive coordinator at Tuscola from 2007-10 before leaving to be the head coach at North Buncombe, which finished 1-10 in 2011. He was also the defensive coordinator at Mountain Heritage for four seasons.
He takes over for Hardin, who led the Patriots to a 11-2 record and a Northwestern Conference championship. It is the first league championship the Patriots have won in nine seasons.
Allen has plenty of experienced players to work with at Freedom. The Patriots return 15 starters, including nine on defense, according to the Morganton News Herald.
