Football captains thank students for support

by Staff Reports

Appalachian State’s football captains wrote a letter to the student body thanking them for their support during the Mountaineers’ 35-27 victory over Montana.

The student section, which made up a big part of the 30,856 that attended the game, was vocal well before the game started. The Mountaineers, after their post-game prayer on the field, went over to the student section to thank them for the support.

Here is the content of that letter:

Fellow Appalachian State Students,

On behalf of the Appalachian football program’s players and coaches, we’d like to offer our most sincere thanks to you for your support during Saturday night’s win over Montana at The Rock.

You have no idea how much of a boost it is for us as players to see the student section packed when we take the field for pregame warmups, to feel the stadium rocking from your noise during the game and to celebrate with you after a big win. Quite simply, the energy that you provide as the heart and soul of App Nation gives us the best home-field advantage in all of college football and we can’t express enough how much it means to us. We have another big game this Saturday when we open Southern Conference play against The Citadel — a team that just beat preseason SoCon favorite and No. 3-ranked Georgia Southern and is now nationally ranked for the first time in four years. We need App Nation to bring the energy again as we try to take the first step in bringing back the SoCon title to where it belongs — right here in Boone!

Thanks again for the support! Can’t wait to see you at The Rock on Saturday!

Sincerely,

2012 Appalachian State Football Captains

(Signed)
