Foard pulls away from WHS softball team

NEWTON — Watauga’s softball team fell 8-2 to Fred T. Foard Thursday at Foard High.

Taylor Drummonds went 2-for-3, and also reached base because of an error, off Foard’s standout pitcher Lexi Shubert, who is the reigning Pitcher of the Year in the Northwestern Conference. Michala McCune also went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.

Drummonds scored the Pioneers’ other run.

Kim Robinson gave up seven runs on just three hits. She walked three and struck out one in just two innings work. Watauga’s defense committed two errors during those two innings.

McCune took over on the mound and allowed one run on four hits in four innings. McCune struck out five and walked two. She also had to overcome two Watauga errors.

Watauga plays at Hickory tonight.
