Drummonds participates in New Balance Nationals

Taylor Drummonds, a Watauga High School Graduate, closed out her prep career Friday night at the New Balance Nationals at North Carolina A&T State University. Drummond is a two-time place finisher for WHS in the girl's pole vault at the indoor and outdoor state championships. She finished in a three-way tie for 12th Friday night in the girl's pole vault in the Emerging Elite Division.

Drummonds cleared the bar with an effort of ten-feet, 11-inches. She finished in a three-way tie with Kennedy Shank of Dillsburg, PA. and Jenna Calandro of Sandy Hook, CT. Drummonds qualified for nationals by winning the event at the Champions Tune Up in Kernersville June 1, clearing the bar at 11-6.


Jackie McNutley of Frederick, MD., won the event with a jump of 12-2.75, taking the win by almost a foot. 


Drummonds finished in a fifth-place tie at the state indoor track meet. She also finished fourth at the outdoor championships. She will attend East Carolina University on a track scholarship this fall.
