Drummonds finishes fourth at state meet

by Staff Reports

GREENSBORO -- Watauga's Taylor Drummonds finished fourth in the girls' pole vault in the state 4-A track and field championships Saturday at North Carolina A&T's Belk Stadium.

Drummonds, a senior who committed to East Carolina for 2013, finished with a vault of 11 feet. As expected, Kristen Lee from Raleigh Wakefield won the event with a vault of 13 feet. Anna Eaton of Apex and Tayna Yvars of Green Hope finished second and third with vaults of 12 feet. Eaton had fewer misses.

Drummonds reached the pole vault finals in 2012, but was hampered with shin splints. She competed, but did not reach the Top Five.

Watauga had two other athletes participate in the pole vault. Drummonds' sister, Savannah Drummonds, finished 10th with a vault of 9-0. Alison Seramur finished in a tie with Savannah Drummonds with a vault of 9-0.

Taylor Drummonds also participated in the 100-meter hurdles, but finished 13th in the preliminaries and did not qualify for the finals. Her time was 15.64 seconds.
