Cox named Freshman of the Week for third time

Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox was named the Southern Conference's Freshman of the Week after he accounted for 162 all-purpose yards in the Mountaineers' 27-10 loss at Furman on Saturday.
Cox rushed 21 times for 118 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry. It was his second 100-yard rushing performance this season.
The Dacula, Ga., native also caught six passes for 44 yards. Cox ranks second in the Southern Conference with 156.1 all-purpose yards per game.
It is the third time this season Cox has earned the Freshman of the Week honor.
Cox's opponent Saturday, Ray Early, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week after making two field goals and punting for a 47.4 yards per kick average.
One of Early's field goals went for 50 yards. He also had five touchbacks on kickoffs, and placed four punts inside the Mountaineers' 20-yard line.
