Cove Creek girls win in overtime

VILAS -- The Cove Creek girls' basketball team needed an overtime period to hold off Blowing Rock with a 26-25 victory over Blowing Rock in middle school basketball Wednesday.
Blowing Rock took a 25-22 lead in the overtime period on two foul shots by Haylee Barker, a foul shot from Paris Bolick and a bucket from Hannah Marlett.
But that would be all the scoring the Rockets would get. Cove Creek got a basket from Kira Plumm, a foul shot by Autumn Ward, another free throw from Ashley Main to pull to 25-24.
Vanessa Saufley scored the game winner with 23 seconds left in the overtime period to seal the victory.
After the teams were tied 8-8 at halftime, Cove Creek nudged itself to a 13-12 lead going into the fourth quarter. Led by two baskets from Plumm and another by Squafley, the Radiers took a 19-13 lead.
Blowing Rock rallied with a foul shot from Sophie Reese, a basket from Reese and two baskets from Paris Bolick, who led the Rockets in scoring with nine points.
Plumm led all scorers with 13 points, while Squaflay had 11.
In other games, Hardin Park beat Parkway 39-12, while Green Valley beat Mabel 23-16. Bethel beat Valle Crucis 23-18.

BLOWING ROCK BOYS 29, COVE CREEK 20
VILAS -- Luke Winkleman scored 13 points to lead Blowing Rock past Cove Creek 29-20 in boys' middle school basketball Wednesday night.
Blowing Rock took an 8-3 lead with help from two 3-point baskets from Justin Howell and a bucket from Satchel Moberg.
The Rockets blew the game open in the second quarter by outscoring Cove Creek 9-3 and taking a 17-6 lead into halftime. Cove Creek kept pace in the third quarter, but trailed 27-15 going into the fourth.
Neither team showed a lot of offense in the fourth quarter. Deandre Currents hit a 3-point basket and teammate Dale Holman added a regular basket for the Raiders, while Winkleman's basket was the only one the Rockets would score.
Moberg and Howell each scored six points and Chris Triplett had four for Blowing Rock.
Currents scored 10 points and Holman had eight for Cove Creek Micha Mast added two points.
Hardin Park beat Parkway 28-25 and Mabel beat Green Valley 44-18. Valle Crucis beat Bethel 27-25
