Conner, Woody win two swim events

LENOIR -- Watauga's Reed Conner won two events in leading the Pioneers' boys' swim team to victories over three teams in a meet held at the Lenoir Aquatic Center on Wednesday.
Conner won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.24 seconds, and the 100-freestyle with a time of 55 flat. Conner was one of three Pioneers to pick up individual victories in the meet.
Nick Woody also won two events. He captured the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:02.42 and the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:05.44.  
Ben Watson added a victory in the 500-freestyle with a time of 6:02.59. Watson also finished second in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:10.74.
Watauga's 200-freestyle relay team comprised of Wood, Joel Brown, Watson and Conner turned in a first-place finish with a time of 1:41.24. The Pioneers' 400-freestyle relay team comprised of the same swimmers as the 200-freestyle team, won with a time of 3:53.40.
Brown added second-place finishes in the 100-freestyle (55.81) and in the 100-breaststroke (1:14.28). Jack Hunter was third in the 200-individual medley with a 2:53.55, and Paul Hagaman was third in the 100-butterfly with a 1:18.27.
Overall, Watauga beat Thomas Jefferson 61-26, McDowell 53-34 and Erwin 66-19.
Watauga's girls' team beat McDowell 69-23 and Erwin 77-10, but lost to Thomas Jefferson 47-46.
Anne Taylor won the 50-freestyle with a time of 26.45. Taylor also took second in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:04.54.
Julianna Silver picked up Watauga's other individual victory with a win in the 500-freestyle. Silver won the event with a time of 6:02.59. She also finished second in the 100-breaststroke with a 1:17.55.
Watauga had other second-place finishes. Dakota Wilson was second in the 50-freestyle with a time of 28.79. Cheyenne Hayler was second in the 200-freestyle with a 2:40.96, and Kimberly Vines was second in the 100-freestyle with a 1:07.67 and third in the 100-backstroke with a 1:13.51.
Sydney Wiswell was second in the 500-freestyle with a time of 7:42.79, and Wilson was third in the 100-freestyle with a 1:08.80.
Watauga's 200-freestyle relay team,  comprised of Taylor, Vines, Silver and Wilson, won with a time of 1:55.60. Vines, Silver, Taylor and Wilson combined to finish second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:04.43.
