Chattanooga softball team sweeps ASU

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Appalachian State's softball team dropped a doubleheader to Chattanooga, losing the first game 8-3 and the second 5-3.
The Mountaineers (11-11, 5-3 SoCon) fell behind 4-0 in the first inning and could not catch up. Chattanooga extended its lead to 7-0 before Appalachian State scored in the top of the third inning on a Cynthia Gomez RBI single. Gomez and Dani Heichen both scored on an Allie Cashion double later in the inning, which brought ASU to within 7-3.
Cashion added a double in the fifth inning, but could not score. She went 3-for-4, while Ashley Seering was 2-for-2.
Appalachian State took a 2-0 lead on a Seering home run in the top of the second inning. Chattanooga rallied to take a 3-2 lead, but ASU's Lindsay Loudermilk drove a solo home run over the left-field fence to tie the game 3-3.
Cashion doubled in the third inning, but was picked off of second base. Her double leaves her with 42 over her career, which is one short of the team record set by Lindsay Glover.
Sarah Warnock went 3-for-4 for the Mountaineers. Appalachian State outhit Chattanooga 10-6.
The teams play at 2 p.m. today.
