Broaden honored by SoCon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Stanley Broaden, a sophomore sprinter at Appalachian State, was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 27, the league office announced today.
Broaden broke both the SoCon and App State record in the 60-meter hurdles at the SoCon Indoor Championships this past weekend. Broaden crossed the line at 7.90 seconds, which broke Charles Derrickson's record set in 2007 at the SoCon Championships.
The win marks the second year in a row that the Mountaineers have claimed the 60m hurdles title, and helped the Mountaineers claim the men’s indoor track & field championship crown.
The exercise science major holds a 3.66 GPA.
Other nominees included The Citadel women’s track’s Micah Wessinger, Davidson men’s track’s Demetrios Pagonis, Georgia Southern women’s basketball’s Meredyth Frye, UNCG men’s track’s Paul Chelimo, and Chattanooga women’s basketball’s Kayla Christopher.
