Former standout Watauga running back Eric Breitenstein was one of several players pictured on the cover of Phil Steele’s 2012 FCS College Football Preview Magazine.

Breitenstein, the Southern Conference’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year, is also a Walter Payton Award candidate. The Payton Award is given to the top player in the FCS.

Breitenstein gained 1,486 yards scored 19 touchdowns last season. He was named preseason All-American by The Sports Network and by the College Sporting News.

Wofford opens its season Sept. 1 at Gardner-Webb.
