SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Former Watauga standout, and current Wofford running back Eric Breitenstein was named the Southern Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week by the league Monday.
Breitenstein ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in Wofford’s 34-7 victory over Gardner-Webb Saturday night. It was his fourth 200-yard performance of his college career, and the 19th time a SoCon player has rushed for at least 200 yards.
Breitenstein scored on a 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and added a 19-yard run in the fourth.
MARTIN NAMED SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Appalachian State punter Sam Martin was named Special Teams Player of the Week by the SoCon after averaging 45.2 yards on six punts. He put two punts inside the 20 yards line and had a long punt of 53 yards, which ended up being a touchback.
East Carolina was able to return just two of Martin’s punts. He also handled the kickoff duties for the Mountaineers.
