Breitenstein finishes third in Payton voting

The Payton Award is given to the top player in the FCS by The Sports Network. Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke won the award by grabbing 72 of a possible 145 first-place votes and 531 points.
Breitenstein, who gained over 2,000 yards at Wofford this fall, finished with 197 points. Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet finished second in the balloting with 284 points.
Breitenstein averaged 150.3 yards rushing per game. He set a new Southern Conference single rushing yards record in a game by gaining 321 yards against Elon.
He finished with 2,035 yards and 19 touchdowns rushing this year. Breitenstein finished his career at Wofford with 5,730 yards and 65 touchdowns.
Heinicke set an FCS record 5,076 yards passing this season. He also threw for 44 touchdowns, ran for another 11, and finished with 5,546 yards in total offense.
Heinicke set a Division I single game record wit he passed for 730 yards and 791 yards in total offense in a 64-61 win over New Hampshire.
Maysonet ran for 1,964 yards for Stony Brook. He finished with 2,316 all purpose yards and scored 23 touchdowns this season.
