Both WHS track teams finish second at South

SAWMILLS -- Watauga's girls' track team finished second, and the Pioneers' boys' team finished second in a outdoor meet held at South Caldwell Thursday.
Watauga's girls finished with 79 points, which was second to Ashe County, which won with 86 points. South Caldwell was third and was followed by Hickory and Foard.
South Caldwell's boys' team won its meet with 89 points. Watauga was second with 75 followed by Hickory, Ashe and Foard.
The Pioneers brought as many kids they could since the snow that fell Wednesday prevented some athletes from participating. Watauga was also missing standout pole vaulter and hurdler Taylor Drummonds, who was playing softball for the Watauga varsity team.
In the girls' meet, Watauga's Lily Weeks won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.8. She edged teammate Alina Kosmala, who finished with a 1:05.9. Weeks was third and Kosmala was fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Madison Harman won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36, and won a two-runner race in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:52. Lynde Wangler was second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:58. Jessica Wangler was fourth with a 6:40.0.
Watauga's Alison Seramur won the pole vault with a leap of 8-feet, 6-inches. Watauga's Stephanie Pawlyszyn was second with a vault of 8-6.
In the boys' meet, Foard's Broderick Bauguess won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:36. Watauga runners captured the next four positions. Josh Anderson was second with a 10:51, while Michael Holland was third with a 10:52. Matthew Osborne was fourth with a 11:13 and Drew Boyette was fourth with a 11:14.
Anderson was also second, and Holland fourth, in the 800-run.
Watauga's Denver Elliott was second in the discus with a toss of 99-10. Teammate Christian Bachman was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.9 seconds, and second in the 200-meter run with a 24.1.
Zach Styron was second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.7, and Bryan Brackney was a close second in the 400-dash with a 53.6. South Caldwell's Jake Hall won with a 53.5.
Matthew Hall was second in the pole vault with a leap of 8-6.
Watauga runs again March 13 at Alexander Central. The Pioneers will also run on March 23 in the Mighty Viking Invitational at North Stokes.
