Ashe's JV teams sweep Watauga

WEST JEFFERSON -- Watauga's junior varsity girls' basketball team claimed a 26-25 victory over host Ashe on Tuesday.
The Pioneers claimed a 14-11 halftime lead and managed to hang on to their lead in a tightly contested fourth quarter. Karson Hamrick led the Pioneers in scoring with eight points, while Tristin Derrick scored four.
Ashe County got 11 points from Alayne Spencer and six points from Brooke Price.

ASHE BOYS JV 44, WHS 43
WEST JEFFERSON -- Ashe County won the third meeting with Watauga 44-43 Tuesday at Ashe High.
Ashe made three out of four foul shots down the stretch to hold off Watauga. The Pioneers had possession of the ball for the final 9.6 seconds, but could not get a shot to fall. A jump ball as time ran out was given to Watauga with 2.0 seconds left, but Levi Wilcox's ensuing shot did not fall.
CoCo Clay led the Huskies with 12 points, while Judd Price scored 10. James Bittle scored nine.
Watauga got 15 points from Zach Valet and Caleb Bryant scored 14 points. Wilcox finished with eight.
Ashe won the first meeting with Watauga in the Huskies' junior varsity tournament on Nov. 30. Watauga beat Ashe on Dec. 6.
Watauga hosts St. Stephens on Tuesday.
