App baseball players join summer programs

Fourteen Appalachian State baseball players are participating in NCAA-sanctioned collegiate summer leagues across the nation this offseason.

Four Mountaineers have traveled cross-country to participate in prestigious leagues on the West Coast. Outfielder Jaylin Davis and infielder Dillon Dobson are with the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League.

Pitchers Dallas DeVrieze and Sean Mason are playing for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League.

Four more Mountaineers have taken their talents to New England. Three play in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, including outfielder/pitcher Brian Bauk, who plays for the Brockton Rox.
Outfielder/pitcher Matt Brill plays for the Seacoast Mavericks, while infielder Michael Pierson plays for the Nashua Silver Knights.

Pitcher Robert Whaley is with the Ocean State Waves of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Catcher Zach Hummel has also gone north for the summer as a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League's Hamilton Joes.

Closer to Boone, pitcher Caleb McCann, infielder/outfielder Bradley Morton, and outfielder Tyler Stroup are playing for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms.

Pitcher Taylor Thurber plays for the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plain League, and and outfielder Drake Zupcic plays for the Morganton Militia of the All-American Collegiate Baseball League.
