App State volleyball team beats Denver, UT Arlington

Appalachian State's volleyball team finished off the Appalachian Invitational with two victories on Saturday at Varsity Gym.
The Mountaineers (9-5) beat Denver 3-2, taking a 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 15-13 victory over the Pioneers. Appalachian State followed with a 3-1 victory over Texas-Arlington.
Appalachian State got 28 kills and 12 digs from Emily Corrigan. App State setter Paige Brown dished out 54 assists and came up with 13 digs defensively. Meghan Mahoney added 25 digs and Lauren Brown had 12 digs.
App State tied the first set at 23-23, but Denver came back to score the next two points to win the game. The Mountaineers were tied 25-25, but two errors by the Pioneers allowed App State to win the second game.
Errors cost Denver in the fifth game after the Pioneers pulled to 13-12. Two Denver errors allowed the Mountaineers to close out the set 15-12.
Nola Beasley finished with 17 kills for Denver.
Appalachian State 3, UT Arlington
Jess Keller had 16 kills and Emily Corrigan had 14 for the Mountaineers. Lauren Gray added 12 kills for App State, while Brown finished with 45 assists.
Kati Stammen had 15 digs and Mahoney added 14 digs for App State. Charmaine Whitmore had 13 kills for UT Arlington.
App State plays at Western Carolina on Thursday and hosts Davidson on Friday.
