App State volleyball sweeps UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO -- Appalachian State's volleyball team won its fourth straight match on Saturday night by sweeping UNCG 3-0 with scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 31-29.
Emily Corrigan led the Mountaineers in kills for the third straight match by recording 13 on the night. Lauren Gray added 12 kills and had only one error for an impressive .579 hitting percentage.
Paige Brown dished out 42 assists and Meghan Mahoney had 22 digs defensively. The Mountaineers hit .287 on the night, while limiting UNCG to a .132 hitting percentage. The Mountaineers had nine total blocks on the night to the Spartans' four.
The first set would have only one lead change as the Mountaineers (16-10, 7-5 SoCon) took an early 12-6 lead over the Spartans (14-11, 7-5). UNCG would not catch up, letting the Mountaineers take the set 25-19.
Appalachian State would take charge again in the second set by pulling ahead 9-6. The score would be close throughout the set, but the Spartans would not gain the lead once as Appalachian took the second set 25-19.
The third set would consist of 12 ties. The Mountaineers scored seven straight points and looked as though they would easily win the set after taking a 20-13 lead.
The Spartans came charging back to tie the match at 24-24. Points would be scored back-and-forth until Appalachian won the set 31-29.
The Mountaineers host Samford at 7 p.m. Friday and Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Saturday.
