All-NWC swimmers announced

Watauga's boys' swim team landed several swimmers on the All-Northwestern Conference teams. Relay teams or individuals that finished in second place or higher in the NWC championship meet earned the honors.

Watauga's 200-medley relay team, comprised of Justin Zumbo, Sam Erwin, Forrest Brown and Marcus Funston were named All-Conference after finishing second in the event in the NWC championship meet.

Brown also finished second in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100-freestyle. Watauga's 200-relay team of Erwin, Sean Zumbo, Brandon Michelson and Noah Allain are all-conference. So are the members of the Watauga 400 relay team, comprised of Brown, Justin Zumbo, Allain and Marcus Funston.

Watauga coach David Gragg was named co-coach of the year with South Caldwell's Brent Tomerlin. South Caldwell won the meet with 314 points, while Watauga was second with 296.

Watauga's girls' team finished third in the NWC championship meet with 245 points. Darby Middlebrook was named all-conference following her win in the 100-breaststroke. Watauga's 200-medley relay team of Hailey Middlebrook, Darby Middlebrook, Doria Kosmala and Ann Taylor earned all-league honors. The same four swimmers also earned all-NWC honors for the 400-relay.

 

WRESTLING

Demetre Kostis was the lone Watauga wrestler to be named All-Northwestern Conference.

Fred T. Foard and Alexander Central had the most wrestlers on the team with seven each. Foard's Hayden Albert was named the Wrestler of the Year, while Billy Baker of St. Stephens is the Coach of the Year.

St. Stephens and South Caldwell each had five wrestlers on the all-league team. Hibriten had three.

Foard won the conference with a 6-0 league mark, 28-1 overall. St. Stephens was second at 5-1, 26-7.
