ASU's softball team sweeps Furman

Appalachian State's softball team swept Furman in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.
The Mountaineers won the first game 3-2 and the second game 5-4. Appalachian State improved to 22-23 overall, 7-9 in the Southern Conference.
Dani Heichen's triple in the bottom of the seventh inning, and then scored on an error on the play to give the Mountaineers the win in the second game. Just a half-inning earlier, Furman doubled in two runs to tie the game 4-4.
Appalachian State opened the scoring in the second game when Lindsay Loudermilk drove in a run with a single in the third inning.
Allie Cashion drove in a run with a double, and Meghan Smith drove in two more with a single to put the Mountaineers in front 4-1.
The Mountaineers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game on an Alex Sohl two-run double in the third inning. That lead increased to 3-0 with fielder's choice RBI by Loudermilk.
The teams play at 1 p.m. Sunday.
