ASU's softball team falls to USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Appalachian State's softball team lost 5-0 to South Carolina Wednesday.
Appalachian State (15-13) suffered its second straight loss. One night earlier, the Mountaineers fell 9-2 to North Carolina.
South Carolina scored four runs in the first inning after a two-run single by Kristen Struett. An Appalachian State error allowed the Gamecocks to score another run in the inning.
South Carolina scored another run in the inning on a wild pitch. The Gamecocks added another run in the fifth inning.
Appalachian State got a double from Allie Cashion, the 43rd of her career and the 10th of the season. It put her in a tie with Lindsay Glover for the career doubles at ASU.
ASU hosts Elon in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday. The teams also play a single game on Sunday.
