ASU's baseball team beats UNCG 9-5

GREENSBORO -- Appalachian State broke open a tied game by scoring a combined five runs in two innings to pull away from UNC Greensboro in a 9-5 victory at UNCG Baseball Stadium Sunday.
Appalachian State was locked in a 4-4 tie with UNCG until the seventh inning when the Mountaineers scored three runs. ASU added two more runs in the eighth inning to claim a 9-4 lead that UNCG did not threaten.
Appalachian State (20-11, 10-7 SoCon) Preston Troutman delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning. Hector Crespo added an RBI single in the seventh to give the Mountaineers a 7-4 lead.
Josh Zumbrook, playing for the first time since an ankle injury sidelined him in the Wofford series, drove in a run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly. Dillon Dobson also hit a sacrifice fly in the inning to put the Mountaineers up 9-4.
Appalachian State finished with 11 hits. Crespo went 2-for-3, while Gabe Dimock went 2-for-4, including a double. Will Callaway also had two hits.
Jaylin Davis had just one hit, but it was a bases-loaded triple in the second inning that put the Mountaineers in front 4-0. The Mountaineers left 11 runners on base.
UNCG (17-19, 5-10) rapped out 15 hits against three Appalachian State pitchers. Lloyd Enzer hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for the Spartans, who left 16 runners on base.
