SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Jamie Nunn, a sophomore pitcher for the Appalachian State baseball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for February 20, the league office announced today.
Nunn limited No. 8 NC State to three hits and one earned run over six-plus innings to help lead Appalachian State to a 6-3 win over the Wolfpack in the 2013 season opener. The righty outdueled NC State All-American pitcher Carlos Rodon and retired the first nine batters he faced to help Appalachian build a 5-0 lead after three-and-a-half innings. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native also struck out five batters and was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week for his efforts.
The chemistry/pre-med major currently holds a 3.4 GPA.
Other nominees included College of Charleston women’s tennis’s Samantha Maddox, The Citadel baseball’s Drew DeKerlegand, Davidson men’s basketball’s JP Kuhlman, Georgia Southern women’s basketball’s Meredyth Frye, and Western Carolina softball’s Jordan Garrett.
