ASU women fall to Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga knocked Appalachian State out of first place in the Southern Conference with a 59-55 victory over the Mountaineers Saturday night at McKenzie Arena.


Chattanooga hit a 3-pointer at the end of the first half to take a 31-24 halftime lead. The Mocs (16-3, 9-1 SoCon) got 15 points from Taylor Hall and 12 points from former Mountaineer Ashlen Dewart. Kayla Christopher and Kylie Lambert each scored 11 points.


Appalachian State shot just 36.2 percent from the field for the game. The Mountaineers did not make a 3-point shot, while Chattanooga was 7-of-24.


Appalachian State got 12 points from Maryah Sydnor and from Katie Mallow before she fouled out. Courtney Freeman added 10 points.


Anna Freeman grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, but made just 3-of-12 shots from the field and finished with eight points. Raven Gary added nine points for the Mountaineers.


Appalachian State plays at Samford on Monday.
