ASU to host Tennessee Tech in BracketBusters

by Staff Reports

From staff reports
Appalachian State will host Tennessee Tech on Feb. 20 as part of the ESPNU BracketBusters event, the network announced on Monday. The game will be part of a doubleheader with ASU's women, who host UNC Greensboro on the same day.
The Golden Eagles begin the week with a 12-10 record, 6-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Forward Kevin Murphy leads the team and ranks fifth in the league with 15.2 points per game. He scored 20 points in Saturday's 82-68 win against Southeast Missouri to pace the team for the 11th time this season.
Tennessee Tech has won four-straight games and opens a three-game road trip spanning six days this weekend.
ASU holds a 3-2 advantage in five all-time meetings with Tennessee Tech. The last game was a 98-87 triumph for the Mountaineers in 2004-05. ASU fell in Cookeville, Tenn. the previous season by a score of 86-78.
The teams do not share any common opponents this season and Southern Conference teams are 2-2 against the OVC. Chattanooga posted wins against Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State, but fell to league leader Murray State.
Georgia Southern dropped an 89-67 decision to Jacksonville State in November as well. JSU is currently tied with the Golden Eagles for fifth place in the conference.
The Mountaineers are participating in the event for the fourth consecutive year and for the second time at home. ASU defeated Wichita State in 2007-08 before falling at home on a buzzer beater against Niagara. Last season, the Mountaineers were narrowly edged at Winthrop, but defeated the Eagles at home earlier this season in the return game.
