ASU softball team falls to Eagles

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Georgia Southern beat Appalachian State 3-0 in the final regular season game.
Appalachian State, the regular season Southern Conference champions, ended the season with a 30-20 overall record, 17-7 in the SoCon. They won the title Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the Eagles.
Georgia Southern won the second game, and then on Sunday by silencing the Appalachian State offense. Eagles ace Sarah Purvis took a no-hitter into the seventh inning when ASU's Lindsay Loudermilk singled.
Georgia Southern scored on a Kourtny Thomas doubled in a run in the first inning and got a two-run home run from Tabby Douberley in the third inning to put the Eagles in front 3-0.
Appalachian State opens the Southern Conference Tournament, which is at UNC Greensboro, at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Mountaineers play the winner of the 9 a.m. game, which features No. 8 seed Elon and No. 9 seed Samford.
