ASU seniors wait for NFL Draft

by Steve Behr Sports Editor

Appalachian State currently has eight former players on NFL rosters. Several other former Mountaineers would like to be added to that exclusive club.
Former Mountaineers such as cornerback Demetrius McCray, linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough, punter Sam Martin, running back Steven Miller, defensive back Troy Sanders, running back Rod Chisholm and safety Mark LeGree will wait by the phone this weekend hoping for a phone call that will get them into an NFL training camp.
LeGree has been in this position before. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, but was released before the first game.

LeGree has also signed with the Arizona cardinals, New York Jets, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons. He's signed with the San Francisco 49ers twice.

McCray, a two-time All-Southern Conference cornerback, participated in the combine. He also played in the  NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, where he returned an interception 38 yards, forced a fumble and had five tackles.

Kimbrough, who was also auditioned as a fullback at the ASU pro day, is the co-SoCon Defensive Player of the Year. Kimbrough, who led the SoCon with 128 total tackles in 2012, helped himself by running a 4.56 40-yard dash at his pro day at ASU.

Martin, a first-team All-American punter, averaged 45.9 yards per kick in his senior season at ASU. He also made 7-of-10 field goal attempts, including a 49-yarder.
