ASU returns to SoCon schedule

Appalachian State gets its first chance Tuesday at Wofford. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
The Mountaineers (4-8, 0-1 SoCon) stumbled through a seven-game losing streak after winning their first game of the season. They changed their fortune by beating University of Missouri at Kansas City on Dec. 16.
After a loss to South Carolina, the Mountaineers beat Presbyterian and Milligan, both at home. Wofford is the first SoCon team the Mountaineers have faced since a loss to Western Carolina on Dec. 8.
Mountaineers coach Jason Capel was happy to beat Milligan, but was disappointed in the team’s overall effort. He feels that effort must improve to beat Wofford Tuesday.
“To be where we want to be going into conference play, we have to be much better,” Capel said following the Milligan game. “We’re going to work to get better and work to go out and beat Wofford.”
Appalachian State is led offensively by Jay Canty, who averages 16.3 points per game. Nathan Healy is second with 13.3 points, and Tab Hamilton is third with 11.1.
Wofford (6-7, 0-1) goes into the game with Karl Cochran leading the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game.
