ASU men's soccer team picked to finish fifth

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Appalachian State men's soccer was tabbed to finish fifth in the annual Southern Conference preseason coaches poll for the 2013 season.
Furman, which received 35 points and five-of-seven first-place votes, was projected to finish at the top of the conference. The Paladins are followed closely by Elon, which earned 29 points and one first-place vote.
Following the Phoenix was Georgia Southern with 23 points and UNCG with 21 points to finish fourth. Appalachian State received 17 points including a first-place vote. Wofford (16) and Davidson (6) rounded out the remaining spots in the poll.
App State senior defender Harrison Delbridge was selected as a preseason all-conference honoree. Delbridge scored two goals last season and will be a key part of the Mountaineers' back line in 2013.
The Mountaineers will finish their preseason schedule
on Saturday with a home match against High Point,. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Appalachian will open its regular season at 7 p.m., on Aug. 30 at Appalachian Soccer Stadium against Marshall.
