Wilma Greene Lathan
Mrs. Wilma Greene Lathan, 87, of Lenoir, really did get to go home for Christmas; she went home to be with Jesus, Dec. 24, 2013.
Born Nov. 9, 1926, in Watauga County, Mrs. Lathan was a daughter of the late Willie Lawrence and Flora Greene.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, David Euell Smith Sr.; her second husband, Clarence Henry Lathan; two stepsons, David Lee Lathan, Bill Lathan; one brother, Cecil Greene; and two sisters, Lorena Greene and Linda Watson.
Mrs. Lathan graduated from Watauga High School and the nursing program through Blackwelder's Hospital. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Wilma loved her career in nursing, but her greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her six children, Rebecca "Becky" Beck and husband, Charles, of Lenoir, Dr. David Smith and wife, Rhonda, of Hudson, Sandra Jordan and husband, Rick, of Hickory, Lisa Helton and husband, Chad, of Lenoir, Karen Lathan Brennan and husband, Steve, of Virginia Beach, Mack Lathan and wife, Rebecca, of Belize; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy (Willie) Harris of Miller's Creek and Lou Copley of Matthews; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Lathan's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Central Baptist Church-Whitnel with the Rev. John Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Central Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Chris Beck, Brock Beck, Josh Smith, Tye Jordan, Dennis Sherrill and Tracey Stallings.
