William L. Norwood

William L. "Buster" Norwood, 77, of 187 Shook Road, Banner Elk, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 12, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mr. Norwood was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Avery County, a son of the late Chester and Sudie Ruppard Norwood. He was a retired carpenter and builder for Shook's Construction Company. Mr. Norwood was a faithful member of Watauga Baptist Church.

Mr. Norwood is survived by his wife, Betty Shook Norwood of the home; two daughters, Linda Warren and husband, Kevin, of Lenoir, and Melissa Miller and husband, Bobby, of Banner Elk; one son, William Norwood of Banner Elk; three granddaughters, Elesha White of Whittier, Calif., Jessica Norwood of Gaffney, S.C., and Chelsey Norwood of Deep Gap; five grandsons, Jason Norwood of Gaffney, Jeffery Norwood of Spartanburg, S.C., Dustin Miller, Travis Miller, and Chad Miller, all of Banner Elk; his great-grandchildren, Abigail Norwood, Madison Crow, Landon Norwood, and Jacob Norwood; one sister, Lola Jean Prittchard and husband, Paul, of Morganton; three brothers, Junior Norwood and wife, Ethel, of Newland, Jimmy Norwood and his friend, Jean, of the Foscoe Community, and Jerry Norwood of Banner Elk; one sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Morganton, and two brothers-in-law, David Shook and wife, Lucy, and Johnny Townsend, all of Banner Elk. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ida Mae Sword.

Funeral services for William L. "Buster" Norwood will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Watauga Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1 to 2 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor R.D. Watson, Pastor Jeff Fox, and the Rev. Billy McGuire. Burial will follow in Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watauga Baptist Church.
