William Howard Davis

U.S. Veteran Mr. William Howard Davis, 82, of 1010 Slabtown Road, Zionville, died Thursday morning, May 3, 2012, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Davis was born February 19, 1930 in Watauga County, a son of the late Thomas Smith Davis and Florence Eggers Davis. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army, serving for 20 years.

Mr. Davis is survived by one sister, Anna Mae Shook of Zionville; two nieces, Kathy Crowder of Mountain City, and Debby Saulmon and husband, Larry, of Morganton; and one nephew, Thomas Keith "Sonny" Taylor of Zionville. He is also survived by three great-nieces, three great-nephews, and seven great-great-nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Davis, and one nephew, Mike Taylor.

Funeral services for Mr. William Howard Davis will be conducted Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.. Officiating will be the Reverend Carl Johnson and the Reverend James Henson. Military graveside rites and burial will follow in Zionville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the Davis residence, in Zionville.
