Walter Ned Henson
Mr. Walter Ned Henson, 84, of Bethel Road, Vilas, died Monday morning, June 18, 2012. He was born June 24, 1927 in a log home on the Fork Branch Road, Beaver Dam, Watauga County, North Carolina, Henson homestead, to the late Arthur Donley and Berta Lee Henson.
Ned Henson played baseball and basketball at Bethel High School, and broke horses as part of the family farm. He also cradled oats as a boy. Mr. Henson moved his family to Burton, Ohio in 1953. He worked for the TRW Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio for thirty three years as a master machinist. He was active with the Burton, Ohio Masonic Lodge and volunteered for many civic, school and charity organizations in Burton, Ohio. Ned and his wife (Velma) moved to the family farm at the bottom of Georges Gap, Bethel, North Carolina in 1987. He enjoyed farming and became a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church. Ned Henson became an integral part of the Bethel, Beaver Dam and Forest Grove Communities; enjoyed gardening and helping others.
He is survived by two sons, Bynum Ned Henson and wife, Shirley, of Brookville, Indiana, and Bill Edward Henson and wife, Susan, of Chardon, Ohio; three grandchildren, Emily Henson of Chardon, Ohio, Bynum Henson and wife, Darcy, of Fishers, Indiana, and Heidi Stamer and husband, Soeren, of San Francisco, California; five great-grandchildren, Caroline Henson, Charles Henson and William Henson of Fishers, Indiana, Finn Stamer and Inga Stamer of San Francisco, California. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Velma (Eggers) Henson. A special thank goes to Ruth and Paul Braswell for all their help.
Funeral services for Mr. Walter Ned Henson will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas Brown. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forest Grove Baptist Church. The family respectively requests no food.
