Virginia A. (Alene) Tutcher

Virginia A. (Alene) Tutcher passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by loved ones.
Alene was born Nov. 19, 1942, in Lenior, N.C., to William and Natella Church Greer. Her favorite Grandpa Levi played a big part in raising her. Her family moved back and forth between North Carolina and California. She attended school in both states. She graduated from Arcata High School in 1960 with top honors and attended college at Humboldt State University.
Alene married her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Robert (Pete) Cargill, on Jan. 19, 1963, in Arcata. They were blessed with three daughters and a son during their 20-year marriage. They later divorced but remained close friends and business partners throughout Pete's life.
Alene was blessed with a second lifelong partner and love, Paul Tutcher. They were married on Dec. 31, 1983, in Lewiston. With Paul, her family expanded by three daughters and another son.
From a young age, Alene was regarded as a highly respected business woman, doing work in real estate, timber and estate planning. Her professional career began at the Cargill family real estate business and Louisiana Pacific Lumber Company in Arcata, Calif. She moved to Idaho in the early 1980s to manage real estate and assets for Madeline Walter and Nelson Howard.
Alene had a strong faith and was a dedicated Christian. For many years, she was involved in her local Baptist church, focusing on youth programs and sharing her love of God and Scripture. Alene was a lifetime member of Eastern Star, as well as a member of the Republican Women.
Alene loved reading, especially the Bible. She also enjoyed cooking and had a vast collection of cookbooks. She loved to travel and enjoyed discussing politics.
She had a big heart and was constantly helping others, often opening her home to them.
Alene is survived by her husband, Paul Tutcher; daughters Natalie Cargill, Kim Sykes and husband Rich, Elizabeth Cargill, Kim Tutcher and Brandy Tutcher; sons Robert Scott Cargill and wife Chrissy, and Christopher Tutcher; brothers Jerry Greer and wife Penny, and Gene Greer and Loye; grandchildren Lindsay Winkle, Christina Winkle, Courtney Thomason, Dan Dack, Kasey Thomason, McKenzie Thomason, Caden Sykes, Carter Sykes, Kennedy Cargill, Tanner Spear, Sydney Spear, Logan Walker, Laken Walker, Jesse Russell, Yojana Khatiwoda and Holden Howard; great-grandchildren Mason, Maddox, and Eric Dack; and mother- and father-in-law, Bonnie Faling and Jerry Tutcher.
Also special to Alene are Ross Howard and wife Angie, Chad Peters and Robert Howard.
Alene leaves behind many other friends and extended family too numerous to mention individually.
Alene was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Pete Cargill; sisters Marietta Swanson and Novella Greer; and stepdaughter Lana Logan.
A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Orchards Baptist Church, 1002 Bryden Ave., Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Binaytara Foundation at binayfoundation.org.
