Thomas William Diener

Mr. Thomas William Diener, 82, of Whispering Pines Road, Boone, passed Thursday evening, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation.  Born March 16, 1930 in Berks County Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Leroy Boyer Diener and Alice Irene Palm Diener.  Tom received his undergraduate degree in music from Murray State University; and his master's degree  from Appalachian State University.  Mr. Diener taught music for 30 years in Winston-Salem.  He was a U. S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.  Tom was a member of the Winston-Salem Symphony for 30 years.  He was an accomplished weaver, sweater knitter and enjoyed tatting and crocheting.  He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Belle Phillips Diener, and his caregiver, Earl Welborn, both of the home; three brothers, Richard Diener of Kissimmee, Fla., Joseph Diener and wife, Christine, of Perkasie, Penn., David Diener and wife, Brenda, of Concord; five sisters, Jane Wilkinson of Florida, Margaret Popp and husband, Earl, of Lancaster, Penn., Bettina Whetstine of Lancaster, Penn., Sara Small and husband, Charles, of Henderson, Nev.; and Elsie Snyder of Reading, Penn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Boyer and Alice Irene Palm Diener, his first wife, Eva Mae Diener; and two brothers, James and John Diener.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas William Diener were conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Springs Baptist Church.  Officiating was the Rev. Brent Bolick and the Rev. Burl Greer.  Burial  followed in the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
