Sarah Thompson Johnson
Sarah "Faith" Thompson Johnson, 83, of Boone, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sept. 29, 2012, at Davant Extented Care Center of Blowing Rock Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was born July 15, 1929, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Charles Franklin Thompson and Minnie Davis Johnson. She was a retired 20-year employee of IRC/TRW, and a member of Rutherwood Baptist Church. Early in life, Mrs. Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at Willow Valley Baptist Church.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 62 years, R.C. Johnson of Boone; two sons, Rudy Charles Johnson and wife, Teresa, of Boone, and Ralph Carter Johnson III and wife, Betty, of Coshocton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Christopher Johnson and wife, May, of Coshocton, Ohio; Shannon Long and husband, Chris, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jonathan Johnson, of Pensacola, Fla. She was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Rilei and Kalei Johnson of Coshocton, Ohio. She is also survived by two sisters, Sophia Safian of Deptford, N.J., and Kathryn Norris of Boone; four sisters-in-law, Maude Thompson of Vilas, Mary Lee Thompson of Deep Gap; Nell Johnson and Phyllis Johnson, of Boone; and one brother-in-law, Vaughn Brown of Hendersonville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Greer, Mattie Edmisten, Ann Brown and Sue Greene; and four brothers, Boyd Thompson, John Thompson, Don Thompson and Walter Thompson; five brothers-in-law James Greer, Clyde Edmisten, Billy Norris, Charles Safian and Joe Johnson; and a nephew, Joe Thompson.
Funeral services for Sarah "Faith" Thompson Johnson will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Rutherwood Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Lawrence, the Rev. Herbert McCoy, and the Rev. Ralph Johnson. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
