Ruth Pratt Beiler
Ruth Pratt Beiler, 95, an educator specializing in early childhood development and a longtime homemaker, died Sunday in Ocoee, Fla.
She was married for 71 years to Dr. Ross C. Beiler, a University of Miami professor and political pundit, who preceded her in death.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Jan. 19, 1918, the daughter of attorney/legislator William H. Pratt and his wife, Belle Batholomew. Mrs. Beiler graduated from Allegheny College in 1939. For two decades she served the public schoolchildren of Miami-Dade County, Fla., first as a teacher and later as a curriculum developer. In the early 1980s, she retired to homes in Boone, N.C. and DeLand, Fla., where she served as a volunteer in the public school system for 14 years. Mrs. Beiler was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of DeLand, P.E.O., Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta.
She is survived by three children, William C. Beiler of Conover; Roberta B. Montgomery of DeLand; David R. Beiler of Fredericksburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Deborah Bishop of Boca Raton, Fla., Kevin Montgomery of Cleveland, Ohio, Joelle Clark of Richmond, Va., Jesse Scobie of Lovettsville, Va., Brandon Beiler of Fredericksburg, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Brandan and Ashlan Bishop, and Ford and Turner Clark.
Services will be held at Brush Creek Cemetery in Irwin, Pa., on Saturday.
