Ruby Hicks Presnell

Mrs. Ruby Hicks Presnell, 88, of 250 Alex Wellborn Road, Deep Gap, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday morning, January 11, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Presnell was born September 12, 1923 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Albert and Flora Hicks. She was a clerk at her daughter and son-in-law's convenience store for many years, and was a member of Westview Baptist. Mrs. Presnell sang gospel music, and performed around the country with her two daughters. She also sang with the "The Sunshine Girls", from Bristol, Tennessee for many years.

Mrs. Presnell is survived by her son, Daniel Presnell and wife, Kristy, of Deep Gap; two daughters, Jean Canter and Rita Jones and husband, Gary, all of Boone; one daughter-in-law, Yolanda Marie Presnell of Boone; five sisters, Mary Norris and husband, Carl, Ellen McGuire and husband, Jack, Gladys Ward, and Nancy Vannoy and husband, Fred, all of the Boone area, and Mildred Leonard of Bristol, Tennessee; five granddaughters, Kimberly Hall of Jonesboro, Tennessee, Lori Brainard of Phoenix, Arizona, Cindy Jones of Boone, Valerie Sanders of Boone, and Tammy Wilson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and three grandsons, Steven Canter, Adam Presnell, and Scott Jones, all of Boone. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Spencer Presnell; two sons, Albert Presnell and Chris Presnell, two daughters-in-law, Nancy Presnell and Darlene G. Presnell; one grandson, Jeff Presnell, and one granddaughter, Amy P. Trivette.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Hicks Presnell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, January 13, 2012, at Westview Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Zane Tester and the Rev. Mike Townsend. Burial will follow in Westview Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m.  Friday afternoon at the church, prior to the service.
