Marjorie Coolidge Wirth
Marjorie Coolidge Wirth, 81, died Jan. 14, 2014, in Bryan, Texas, after a long illness.
Marjorie was a long-time resident of Blowing Rock, and had recently relocated with her husband to Texas to be closer to family.
She was born April 14, 1932, in Binghamton, N.Y., to Franklin and Miriam Coolidge. Her father retired as the Dean of Education SUNY in Cortland N.Y. and her mother was a homemaker.
Marjorie was the valedictorian of Cortland High School in 1949 and obtained her undergraduate degree in English at Syracuse University where she met and married her husband William "Bill" R. Wirth in 1954.
Bill was commissioned in the United States Air Force after receiving his master's at Syracuse University and the family lived in several locations over his long career including Texas, Arkansas, and finally retiring to Blowing Rock in 1978, after an assignment in Anchorage, Alaska. Marjorie had a successful work career, even with the transfers, serving primarily as an officer with Heritage Publishing Companies in both the North Little Rock, Ark., and Boone locations.
Along with her husband, Marjorie was actively involved in the Kiwanis Club of Boone. Her most treasured memories where those of working with the Appalachian State University Circle K. She enjoyed mentoring the students during their time at ASU.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Bill Wirth; her daughter, Tracy Frank and her husband, Greg, of Bryan; son, William "Rusty" R. Wirth III of New Orleans; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will not be holding a service at this time, but will plan a memorial for a future date at a location to be determined.
